Umami
Ochazuke, is a Japanese dish made of green tea (ocha) poured on rice, along with a variety of toppings (zuke). Simply pour one packet onto cooked rice, then pour hot water on top and enjoy your meal. Umami strives to introduce Japanese culture through this dish to the American population.
All the boxes are folded without using glue, instead the box uses locking tabs and fold lines. Once you are finished using a packet, you may unfold it and use it to make origami giving it a second life.
The word Umami is used to describe our ochazuke as it means savoury or pleasant in Japanese.
The concept for this packaging came from the Japanese art of paper folding called Origami. In Japanese, Ori means folding and kami means paper. Each box contains a packet of umamigami (a colourful and fun packet of origami) and an instruction sheet on how to fold 7 basic foldings. The instruction sheet gives you a general idea of what you can possibly create with your packets, but we provide the extra origami paper to give you create freedom to create whatever you please.
